Krig & Fred

230311, Richard W. Vague Campaign For Liberty — Conservatives Got Us Out of Vietnam and Korea. Our conservative politicians are letting us down. At a time when we desperately need to cut the deficit, they are standing by while the Obama administration spends $119 billion per year in Afghanistan, which is a country with a GDP of only $16 billion per year. And yet the conservative public -- once they are given the cost numbers -- are coming to the correct conclusions. A poll we recently conducted showed that 71% of conservatives, and 67% of Tea Party conservatives, once they were shown the numbers above, responded they were worried that we were spending too much in Afghanistan. ... Conservatives fought tooth-and-nail against the healthcare program. which costs far less than our occupation of Afghanistan. .... In 2000, the U.S. military budget was $294 billion. For 2011, it is $710 billion. And that's before any unforeseen emergency upplements. And much of this is for a war where even a cursory review reveals that al-Qaeda is largely gone from Afghanistan — and where the underlying conflict is a civil war in which negotiation among all the relevant parties will get us further, faster, and at a much lower cost. .. we are now spending $330 billion per year more than the inflation-adjusted military spending rate of 2000. ... Instead Obama - acquiescing to the generals - has dramatically escalated troop levels in Afghanistan to a point where it can now rightly be called an occupation, Obama's Occupation. ... I only want to speak of this war with the proper respect and gravity, but the cost and benefit is egregiously out of balance, and the solution being pursued won't work. If President Obama and Gen. David Petraeus can't successfully handle a largely political problem in a country with a GNP of $16 billion for far less than $119 billion a year, let's find someone who can.

280211, Chris Hedges, No Other Way Out: I have watched mothers and fathers keening in grief over the frail corpses of their children in hospitals in Gaza and rural villages in El Salvador, Bosnia and Kosovo. The faces of these dead children, their bodies ripped apart by iron fragments or bullets tumbling end over end hrough their small, delicate frames, appear to me almost daily like faint and sadly familiar ghost. .... Children die ... They are executed by the Taliban after being accused, sometimes correctly, of spying for the Afghan National Army. ... We will not stop the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, we will not end this slaughter of innocents, unless we are willing to rise up as have state workers in Wisconsin and Citizens on the streets of Arab capitals. Repeated and sustained acts of civil disobedience are the only weapons that remain to us. Our political system is as broken and dysfunctional as that once presided over in Egypt by Hosni Mubarak.  ... On March 19, the eighth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, I will join a coalition of U.S. military veterans from Iraq Veterans Against the War, March Forward!, Vietnam Veterans Against the War and Veterans for Peace who will gather in Lafayette Park across from the White House. The veteran-led action will result in numerous arrests, as did a Dec. 16 protest organized by Veterans or Peace. It will seek, because it is all we have left, to use our bodies to challenge the crimes of the state. ... Hugh Thompson, a helicopter pilot who while flying saw the killings of unarmed Vietnamese civilians in what later became known as the My Lai massacre, landed in the village during the slaughter. He spotted a group of about 10 civilians, including children, running toward a homemade bomb shelter. Soldiers from the 2nd Platoon, C Company, were chasing the civilians. T"hompson, dismounting from the cockpit, put himself between the civilians and the soldiers. He ordered his gunner to open fire on the Americans if they began to shoot the villagers or him. Later, Thompson, who crusaded for justice after then-Maj. Colin Powell led the official whitewash of My Lai, received death threats. Mutilated animals were tossed on his doorstep. He was unsung for decades and forgotten until shortly before his death in 2006. He exhibited real courage, moral courage, the kind of courage the state detests, the kind of ourage for which they do not mint medals. Bradley Manning, who allegedly downloaded thousands of documents and videos that confirmed war crimes by U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and passed them on to WikiLeaks, is being held in a military brig in Quantico, Va. He has been kept in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day and denied exercise, a pillow or sheets for the last nine months. His prolonged isolation is designed to break him physically and psychologically. There will be a protest outside Quantico on March 20 in support of Manning, another soldier from another war whom Thompson would have understood. ... The documents lifted the veil on our undeclared, black war in Pakistan, including drone strikes that have killed more than 900 civilians in Pakistan since Barack Obama took office. .... The Obama administration, which has proved as efficient in serving the war machine and the corporate state as the Bush administration did, is attempting to destroy not only Manning but WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The state seeks to silence anyone who practices moral courage. It does not want the truth heard.

Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START)   er i fare.

Den nye START was signed in April by US President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Men den skal godkendes i USAs Senat !!! 011210, PressTV - Putin warns US over arms treaty  ... Russia has threatened to continue building up its nuclear arsenal if the United States fails to ratify the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). | Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told CNN's Larry King, "We've been simply saying that this is what all of us expect to happen if we don't agree on a joint effort there.' .... The treaty would restrict each country to a maximum of 1,550 deployed warheads over the next seven years, which is an approximately 30 percent cut from the 2002 limit The two countries would also have to comply with new rules for verification and monitering. ....At least eight Republicans in the Senate must now vote for the passage of the treaty, but if delayed until next year, at least 14 Republican votes will be needed from the new members of Congress.

Uniting the U.S. anti-war movement is crucial if current and future wars are to be stopped. A step in this direction will take place at the National Peace Conference, in Albany, New York, July 23-25. (http://nationalpeaceconference.org/Home_Page.html).

The Politburo had made a mistake and must correct it as soon as possible ... would keep the Soviets fighting on to 1989. ... The Reagan administration surge in Pakistan and Afghanistan had been profligate, involving billions of dollars and a massive propaganda campaign, as well as alliances with the Saudis and a Pakistani dictator and his intelligence service to fund and arm the most extreme of the anti-Soviet jihadists of that noment ~ "freedom fighters" as they were then commonly called in Washington. ... Now, it seemed, there would be something new under the sun, an arms race of one, as the U.S. prepared itself for utter dominance into a distant, highly militarized future. ... The 23 men and two women who signed the initial PNAC statement urging the United States to go for the military option in the twenty-first century would, however, prove something more than your typical crew of think-tank types. After all, not so many years later, after a disputed presidential election settled by the Supreme Court, Dick Cheney would be vice president; I. Lewis ("Scooter") Libby would be his right-hand man; Donald Rumsfeld would be Secretary of Defense, Paul Wolfowitz, Deputy Secretary of Defense; Zalmay Khalilzad, head of the Bush-Cheney transition team at the Department of Defense and then the first post- invasion U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, as well as ambassador to Iraq and UN ambassador; Elliot Abrams, special assistant to the president with a post on the National Security Council; Paula Dobriansky. Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs; Aaron Friedberg. Deputy Assistant for National Security Affairs and Director of Policy Planning in the office of the vice president; and Jeb Bush, governor of Florida. (Others like John Bolton, who signed on to PNAC later, would be no less well employed.) ... the PNAC people .... We could, they insisted in a phrase they liked, enforce an American peace, a Pax Americana, for decades to come, if only we poured our resources, untold billions -- they refused to estimate what the real price might be - into war preparations and, if necessary, war itself, from the seven seas to the heavens, from manifold new "forward operating bases on land" to space and cyberspace. ... the U.S. military. They believed it capable of doing just about anything. As a result, they made a massive miscalculation, mistaking military destructiveness for global power. Nor could they have been less interested in the sinews of global economic power (though they did imagine our future enemy to be China). Nor were they capable of imagining that the greatest military power on the planet might be stopped in its tracks -- in the Greater Middle East, no less - by a ragtag crew of Iraqis and Afghans. To read "Rebuilding America's Defenses" today is to see the rabbit hole down which, as if in a fever dream, we would soon disappear.

220910, Lew Rockwell, Karen Kwiatkowski, War Is Murder. Well, it sure is murder for our boys in desert cammy. Five of our finest are now charged with running an unauthorized hit team, targeting random Afghan civilians for a little stressrelieving target practice. What's the problem here? The CIA has been doing this for years with its own militarized groups. The DoD is doing this with its own special forces. Xe and other contractors do this with the holy blessing of both DoD and CIA.  ... These nilitary enlistees, ... are doing not only the job they have been trained to do, but they are conducting themselves in the same spirit as their commanders. A spirit of brutality, righteous judgment, self-pity because we want so much to "do good" to the ungrateful, a spirit of hate, and a spirit of self-indulgence. That's American foreign policy in a nutshell, and it's not new. .... But today, we speak of murder. Coldblooded, just for fun, gangland-style, trophy-hunting, punch drunk, hilarious murder. And predictably - the Army cannot explain how the lack of a strategic or even clearly tactical mission in Afghanistan and Iraq has created a stagnant spreading cesspool where soldiering ethics are slowly churned and degraded until our own people don't know up from down. ... Thus, when the state throws down the "terrorist threat" strawman, and tells us that the soldier/murderers of the moment felt threatened and terrorized (even by so simple an act as an unarmed Afghan man walking alone along a street in his own neighborhood) most of the American public can only stare and mumble. ... This news-blip regarding murder and the collection of Afghan body parts leaves most Americans who see it with mild concern about our offensive policy around the world, and perhaps a vague sense of anxiety about what we will face as these soldiers come home to live in our neighborhood, to serve as our police forces and city inspectors, to marry our daughters and father our grandchildren. .... They [Afghans] are way ahead of us in terms of figuring out how to survive and deal with a brutal military and political occupation for the sake not of democracy or women's rights or "the children" but for the sustainment of the US military industrial complex, and expansion and stability of the US-centered commodities/currency dynamic, and as leverage for coming national defaults. We are murdering and warring for a Middle East that is safe for the complementary goals of Israel's economic expansion into and US military domination of the region. ... The reality is clearly that the West wishes to extend and cement its_control over the Middle East via military power. Even the upcoming war with Iran, if it comes to that, may be seen as an extension of this unstated but obvious policy."

170910, ICH, Michel Chossudovsky, Real Versus Fake Grises: Concealing The Risk of An All Out Nuclear War. We have reached a turning point in our history. The US and its allies are preparing to launch a nuclear war with devastating consequences. ... While one can conceptualize the loss of life and destruction resulting from present-day wars including Iraq and Afghanistan, it is impossible to assess or fully comprehend the devastation which would result from a Third World War, using "new technologies" and advanced weapons systems, until it actually occurs and becomes a reality. ... The media is involved in acts of camouflage. The devastating impacts of a nuclear war are either trivialized or not mentioned. Meanwhile, public opinion has its eyes rivetted on what might be described as "fake crises". ... In an utterly twisted logic, World War III is presented as a means to preserving World Peace. ... Realities are twisted and turned upside down. Iran is being accused of wanting to start World War III. Inherent in US military doctrine, the victims of war are often heralded as the aggressor. ... In a bitter irony, those who decide on the use of nuclear weapons believe their own propaganda. President and Commander in Chief Barack Obama believes his own lies. ... Instead, fake "crises" -- e.g. a global warming, a Worldwide flu pandemic, a false flag" nuclear attack by "Islamic terrorists"-, are fabricated by the media, the governments, the intelligence apparatus and the Washington think tanks. War waged on humanitarian grounds is considered a "solution" to a crisis rather than its cause.

Khan nuclear-smuggling network are being contacted by several governments in an effort to lure these specialists out of retirement. The development is raising concerns among U.S. intelligence agencies about the revival of the proliferation network that was thought to have been shut down years ago. Two U.S. intelligence officials and other U.S. officials with access to intelligence reports said information compiled over the past seven months showed that agents from several foreign governments — including Brazil, Burma, Iran, Nigeria, North Korea, Sudan and Syria — pursued members of the network named after Abdul Qadeer Khan, the scientist considered to be the father of Pakistan's nuclear weapons program. 240710, TomDispatch - Andrew Bacevich, The End of (Military) History ? The US, Israel, and the Failure of the Western Way of War. ... Today the West no longer looks quite so triumphant. Yet events during the first decade of the present century have delivered history to another endpoint of sorts. Although Western liberalism may retain considerable appeal, the Western way of war has run its course. For Fukuyama, history implied ideological competition, a contest pitting democratic capitalism against fascism and communism. ... Yet from start to finish, military might had determined that competition's course as much as ideology. ... That was theory. Reality, above all the two world wars of the last century, told a decidedly different story. Armed conflict in the industrial age reached new heights of lethality and destructiveness. Once begun, wars devoured everything, inflicting staggering material, psychological, and moral damage. .... Pain vastly exceeded gain. In that regard, the war of 1914-1918 became emblematic: Even the winners ended up losers. ... Among nations classified as liberal democracies, only two resisted this trend. One was the United States, the sole major belligerent to emerge from the Second World War stronger, richer, and more confident. The second was Israel.  ... The essential prerequisite for peace was for any and all adversaries, real or potential, to accept a condition of permanent inferiority. ...For both Israel and the United States, however, appearances proved deceptive. Apart from fostering grand illusions, the splendid wars of 1967 and 1991 decided little. In both cases, victory turned out to be more apparent han real. Worse, triumphalism fostered massive future miscalculation. ... Washington now sought to dominate the entire Greater Middle East. ... In both cases, presence provoked (or provided a pretext for) resistance. Just as Palestinians vented their anger at the Zionists in their midst, radical Islamists targeted Americans whom they regarded as neo-colonial infidels. OJ] ... So what? Events made it increasingly evident that military dominance did not translate into concrete political advantage. Rather than enhancing t the prospects for peace, coercion produced ever more complications. No matter how badly battered and beaten, the "terrorists" (a catch-all term applied to anyone resisting Israeli or American authority) weren't intimidated, remained unrepentant, and kept coming back for more. [Også Nazi-Tysklands modstandere blev kaldt terrorister, OJ] ... In Afghanistan and Iraq, George W. Bush's Global War on Terror began impressively enough, as U.S. forces operated with a speed and elan that had once been an Israeli trademark. Thanks to "shock and awe," Kabul fell, followed less than a year and a half later by Baghdad. ... Such claims of success, however, proved obscenely premature. Campaigns advertised as being wrapped up in weeks dragged on for years, while American troops struggled with their own intifadas. When it came to achieving decisions that actually stuck, the Pentagon (like the IDF) remained clueless. ... By 2007, the American officer corps itself gave up on victory, ... High-ranking generals shelved their expectations of winning -- at least as a Rabin or Schwarzkopf would have understood that term. They sought instead to not lose. ... Meanwhile, the People's Liberation Army stays home. China has stolen a page from an old American playbook, having become today the preeminent practitioner of "dollar diplomacy." ... In theory, the United States, sharing none of Israel's demographic or geographic constraints and, far more richly endowed, should enjoy far greater freedom of action. Unfortunately, Washington has a vested interest in preserving the status quo, no matter how much it costs or where it leads. For the military-industrial complex, there are contracts to win and buckets of money to be made. For those who dwell in the bowels of the national security state, there are prerogatives to protect. For elected officials, there are campaign contributors to satisfy. For appointed officials, civilian and military, there are ambitions to be pursued.

290610, Granma - Fidel Castro, Warning Of War. Discovering The Truth In Time. I do not harbor the slightest doubt that as soon as the warships of the United States and Israel take up their positions - together with the rest of the U.S. military vessels located in the vicinity of the Iranian coasts - and attempt to inspect that country's first merchant ship, a rain of missiles will be unleashed in both directions. That will be the precise moment when that terrible war will begin. It is not possible to foresee how many ships will be sunk nor of what ensign. .... [when] Cuban troops ... were approaching the southern border with Angola, from where the racist South African forces had been evicted after the battle of Cuito Cuanavale, entrenchmg iemselves on the border with Namibia. ^ith the knowledge of the U.S. president, the Pentagon supplied the South African racists via Israel with approximately 14 nuclear weapons, more powerful than those launched on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as we have explained in other reflections. ... However, some things are still very unclear at the present moment; can the two most powerful nuclear powers, the United States and Russia, abstain from using their nuclear weapons against one another? What remains in no doubt whatsoever is that, from Europe, the nuclear weapons of Britain and France, allies of the United States and Israel - and which enthusiastically imposed the resolution that will inevitably unleash war, and a war that, given the reasons explained, will immediately become a nuclear war - are a threat to Russian territory, although that country, just like China, has tried to avoid such an outcome as far as the strengths and possibilities of each one allow. The economy of the superpower will collapse like a house of cards. The society of the United States is one which is the least prepared to endure a disaster ...

271105, ICH. Et af dem gengiver jeg her (uddrag): " Apologize like the end of Terrorism depends on your apology...because it does."

James Madison: "Political Observations" 1795: Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most dreaded because it comprises and develop the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceeds debts and taxes... known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few.... No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.

Endda i Europa.

Ingen lys

Ingen varm mad

Jeg har jordvarme - den forsvinder også

Myldretidstrafikken i byerne bryder sammen, p.g.a. manglende lysregulering

110105, Charles Merciera, professor emeritus, Alabama A&M University, Formand for International Association of Educators for World Peace skriver om republikanernes svagheder.

150805, samme Charles Merciera:" De amerikanske [militærindustri]koncerners yderste mål: at skaffe sig kontrol over universiteterne". Læs articlen sammen med John Kenneth Galbraith: "The new Industrial State", afsnittet om det militærindustrielle kompleks.

020405, Paul Robinson gennemgår i The Spectator usikkerheden i verden. Antal krige, antal revolutioner, antal terroristangreb. Konklusion - sagligt velbaseret: ALDRIG HAR VERDEN VÆRET FREDELIGERE.

180805, Information Clearing House, Brian Bogart.

101105, Mike Whitney, ICH.

Betts (Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies at Columbia University): "How Superpowers Become Impotent" Oldgammel guerillataktik og nye high-tech våben gør de store militærmaskiner magtløse. "The U.S. and Israel are perfectly equipped to knock out Iraqis, the Taliban or Hezbollah — as long as they act like good enemies and come at us in tanks, planes and ships."

030906, Boston Globe, Howard Zinn: "War is not a solution for terrorism".

201006, Asia Times, Ehsan Ahrari US turns space into its colony.

241106, ICH, K Gajendra Singh, The US Empire -Beginning of the End Game. "Americans proudly call their state 'US Incorporated', which it has truly become, a mighty but a dangerous company; manufacturing, selling arms and using them recklessly all around the world (while experimenting with chemicals and depleted Uranium munitions) The Mongols, Turks and other wild tribes used arms for expanding empires but in US Inc, arms manufacture and its use has become an end itself, to hell with the US public interest....Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969), 34th US President in his Farewell Address on Jan. 17,1961 said ,"[The] conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist." - But now this monster has imposed itself on USA and is expanding, going for more lethal and profitable means of destruction even against international treaties and conventions..."

281106, The Guardian, George Monbiot, Only Paranoia Can Justify The World's Second Biggest Military Budget.Britain's level of defence spending isn't related to real threats we face, but the needs of our military-industrial complex. 32 milliarder GBP/år. Even the MoD acknowledges this. In the white paper it published at the end of 2003, it admits that "there are currently no major conventional military threats to the UK or Nato...[T]he civil servants in the MoD write their own rules. Much of the time they seem to be defending not the realm but the arms companies... The real challenges, [A report published by the Oxford Research Group] contends, are presented by climate change, competition over resources, the marginalisation of the poor and our own military deployments.

Her referet fra SYDSVENSKAN, Söndag 3 juni 2007, "Pluton från Boden tappade kontrollen under skånsk storövning.

The World Revolution har en State of the World. Der har været over 250 egentlige krige siden 2. verdenskrig. 23 millioner mennesker er dræbt i disse. Der er 35 større igangværende konflikter. Siden 1945 har 90 % af ofrene været civile. 3/4 kvinder og børn. Der er 300.000 barnesoldater i verden.

170607, ICH, Ramzy Baroud, War Foretold: Mark Twain and the Sins of Our Race. ""Next the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after the process of grotesque self-deception....Who gets a profit out of it? Nobody but a parcel of usurping little monarchs and nobilities who despise you."  Fra Mark Twain's "The Mysterious Stranger".
