Globaliserings links

The Bush agenda: Invading the world, One economy at a Time", Regan Books, 2006.

"Some countries globalise, and others are globalised," Ollanta Humala, præsidentkandidat i Peru, 2006.

250406, ICH, Paul Craig Roberts "Wars, Debt and Outsourcing." The World is Uniting Against the Bush Imperium. The federal budget is deep in the red, adding to Anierica's dependency on debt. The US cannot even go to war unless foreigners are willing to finance it.

"No  economy, [Leo] Hindery [CEO, Global Crossing] said, "can survive the offshoring of both manufacturing and services concurrently. In fact, no society can even take excessive offshoring of manufacturing alone." According to Hindery, offshoring serves the short-term interests of shareholders and executive pay at the long-term expense of US economic strength.  Today the constituency is quarterly earnings. A country whose business class has no sense of the nation is not a superpower.

America's superior military firepower is not enough to prevail in fourth generation warfare. The Bush regime has reached this conclusion itself, which is why it increasing speaks of attacking Iran with nuclear weapons.

300106, The Independent. Philip Thornton.

070506, Global Info, Emad Mekay, U.S.-Israel-Jordan Pact Created Near-Slavery Conditions. "Major U.S. companies, including Wal-Mart, Gloria Vanderbilt, Target, Kohl's, Victoria's Secret and L.L. Bean, are buying apparel from sweatshops in Jordan under a three-way trade deal that binds the Arab nation to Israel and the United States, according to a new report...The report by the New York-based National Labor Committee says that the U.S-Jordan Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has descended into human trafficking and "involuntary servitude." Part of the FTA, the Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZs) program, launched by Washington in 1998 as an economic dividend for Jordan's peace agreement with Israel, gives products from the zones duty- and quota-free access to the U.S. market as long as the Arab nation sources at least 8 percent of their content from an Israeli manufacturer...The new report, whose authors chose to focus on conditions of foreign workers, known as "guest workers,"  says the boom to the industry came at a hefty human cost and goes on to enumerate examples of abuse to workers and squalid working conditions."

150606, CounterPunch, GABRIEL KOLKO, "The Demons of Greed are Loose" Why a Clobal Economic Deluge Looms. "Essentially, "deregulation and liberalization", which the IMF and proponents of the "Washington consensus" advocated for decades, have become a nightmare, creating "tremendous private and social benefits" but also holding "the potential (although not necessarily a high likelihood) for fraqility, instability, systemic risk, and adverse economic consequences." "Banks simply do not understand the chain of exposure and who owns what. Senior financial regulators and hankers now admit as much....Problems are also inherent in speed and complexity, and these are very diverse and almost surreal. Credit derivatives are precarious enough, but at the end of May the International Swaps and Derivatives Association revealed that one in every five deals, many of them involving billions of dollars, involved major errors...Stephen Roach. Morgan Stanley's chief economist, on April 24 of this year wrote that a major financial crisis was in the offing and that the ability of global institutions to forestall it - ranging from the IMF and World Bank to other mechanisms of the international financial architecture - are utterly inadequate...The IMF's iconoclastic chief economist. Raqhuram Rajan, at the same time warned that the hedge funds' compensation structure encouraged those in charge of them to increasingly take risks, thereby endangering the whole financial system. "

DER SPIEGEL 28/2006 - 10. Juli.

210107, Information Clearing House Blog, William Greider, The Beginning of the End for Corporate-Led Globalization?

240207, Inter Press Service News Agency, LATIN AMERICA, Protests Mount Against Mining Giant.

130607. ICH, Paul Craig Roberts, The Truth Comes Out About Offshoring. "Since 2004 I have written a number of articles pointing out that offshoring is really labor arbitrage and that if offshoring had the mutual economic benefits associated with free trade, there would be US employment growth in export and import-competitive industries. Instead, employment in these industries has declined in the US but grown remarkably in Asia. In the 21st century the US economy has been able to create net new jobs only in nontradable domestic services, such as waitresses and bartenders and health and social services. Moreover, the growth in productivity and GDP attributed to the US economy were inconsistent with the stagnant real incomes of Americans. Somehow productivity and GDP were growing strongly, but it wasn't showing up in the incomes of Americans."
